His solitary effort was enough to earn the Danes a 1-0 victory over Portugal in the first leg of their quarter-final tie – with Red Devils team-mate Christian Eriksen having previously missed a first-half penalty in the same contest.

After hitting the net, Hojlund broke out the iconic 'Siu' routine that five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo has made famous. Fending off any accusations of being disrespectful to United legend CR7, who was on the field at the time, Hojlund revealed why he opted for that celebration.

The 22-year-old forward told : "I'm playing against the world's best footballer, my idol, and to score and become the winner, it couldn't be better. It was not to mock him or anything, I've always said he has had great importance for me and my football career. Scoring against him and Portugal is huge. I went to see him in 2009, where he scored from a free-kick, and I've been a fan ever since."
Quizzed on whether he has dreamed of performing the ‘Siu’ routine in front of Ronaldo, Hojlund went on to say: "Really, really many times. It's very, very big."
